CATL 3.2V 314Ah LiFePO4 Prismatic Cell — Stud Terminal | High-Capacity Solar & Home Energy Storage
Description
Product Description
The 314Ah cell is CATL's capacity upgrade on the 280Ah — same external dimensions, roughly 12% more capacity, following the same "same footprint, higher capacity" product path that EVE, CALB, and other major suppliers have also taken with their own 314Ah offerings. This cell keeps the stud terminal format, M6 by default, for direct busbar connection without drilling or custom adapters.
Core specs (as provided on the manufacturer's data card):
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Brand | CATL |
| Cell Chemistry | LiFePO4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate) |
| Nominal Voltage | 3.2V |
| Nominal Capacity | 314Ah |
| Nominal Weight | 5.4kg |
| Dimensions | 207mm x 174mm x 72mm |
| Internal Resistance | ≤0.2mΩ |
| Cycle Life | ~5,000 cycles (see note below) |
| Terminal Type | Welded stud terminal, M6 (default) |
A note on cycle life that's worth reading carefully: the manufacturer's data card for this listing states ~5,000 cycles, but a lot of resellers marketing CATL 314Ah cells advertise 6,000-10,000+ cycles, some going as high as "10,000 cycles @ 80% SOC." That's a meaningful gap, and most of those higher figures aren't published alongside disclosed test conditions (C-rate, depth of discharge, clamp force). We're listing this cell at the more conservative ~5,000 cycles from the actual data card, not the higher figures circulating among resellers — if you have a more detailed manufacturer test report for this specific batch, we'd welcome it to update this page.
A note on discharge rate: this cell's data card doesn't list a max discharge rate. Cross-referencing several independent CATL 314Ah technical sources, the more consistent figure is 0.5C standard charge/discharge, 1C max continuous (roughly 314A) — notably, we don't see the kind of "3C peak" marketing figure that shows up on the 280Ah version. If your application needs a specific continuous-current guarantee, confirm with us before ordering.
A note on internal resistance: the data card lists ≤0.2mΩ. Independent third-party sources for CATL 314Ah more commonly cite figures around 0.17-0.18mΩ — a small discrepancy, likely within normal batch-to-batch measurement variance.
How to Verify You've Received a Genuine, Grade A Cell
As with the 280Ah, CATL's Grade A production capacity is heavily allocated to automotive and large OEM contracts, so most CATL 314Ah cells available in the retail/wholesale market are Grade B — this dynamic holds for the 314Ah just as it does for the 280Ah. Before ordering, it's worth confirming:
- Weight and dimensions: genuine cells should be close to 5.4kg and 207x174x72mm — a meaningful deviation is worth questioning.
- Grade A vs. Grade B: ask directly. Grade B is common and legitimate at a lower price, but should be sold as such, not passed off as Grade A.
- QR code / batch traceability: legitimate channels typically provide a QR code linking to batch test data. A seller with no traceability documentation is a bigger risk.
- Cycle life marketing claims: if a seller advertises "10,000 cycles" without disclosing the test conditions behind that number, treat it with skepticism — it's not necessarily that the cell is bad, it's that the marketing figure may not be fully substantiated.
CATL 314Ah vs. EVE MB31: How the Two Compare
EVE's 314Ah cell is the MB31, the most commonly compared competitor to CATL's 314Ah in this market. Here's how they stack up based on independently published specs:
| Spec | CATL 3.2V 314Ah (this cell) | EVE MB31 314Ah |
|---|---|---|
| Nominal Capacity | 314Ah | 314Ah (often tests above 330Ah) |
| Nominal Voltage | 3.2V | 3.2V |
| Internal Resistance | ≤0.2mΩ | ≤0.18mΩ |
| Cycle Life | ~5,000 cycles (data card figure; reseller marketing claims run higher without disclosed test conditions) | ≥8,000 cycles (officially disclosed test conditions: 0.5C/0.5C charge/discharge, 25±2°C, to 70% capacity) |
| Charge/Discharge Rate | 0.5C standard, 1C max continuous (per third-party sources, not this listing's own card) | 0.5C/0.5C standard and max continuous |
| Weight | 5.4kg | ~5.6kg (±0.3kg) |
| Dimensions | 207 x 174 x 72mm | 207.2 x 71.7 x 173.7mm |
| Terminal / Torque | Stud terminal, M6 | Stud terminal, M6, officially specified at 6 N·m nut torque |
| Grade A Availability | Limited — retail market is mostly Grade B | More consistently available, with established QR-code batch traceability |
| Warranty | Some channels offer up to 5-year warranty (varies by reseller, not a universal CATL policy) | Some channels offer up to 5-year warranty (varies by reseller, not a universal EVE policy) |
How to think about the choice: if disclosed cycle-life testing conditions and consistent Grade A availability matter most, EVE's MB31 currently has better-documented evidence on both counts. If CATL's brand reputation matters more to you and you're comfortable with a more conservative ~5,000-cycle expectation (rather than the higher, less-substantiated figures some resellers advertise), this CATL 314Ah remains a reasonable choice — just don't let reseller marketing set your expectations higher than the actual data card supports.
System Integration Notes
- Series configuration for common voltages: 16 cells in series (16S) gives a nominal 51.2V pack, same as the 280Ah — the standard for most 48V-class home storage systems.
- Stud torque: for M6 stud terminals at this capacity class, industry-published figures (including EVE's own MB31 spec) generally sit in the 6-9 Nm range, with EVE specifically stating 6 N·m for its nuts. Many experienced pack builders use a more conservative 4-5 Nm in practice to avoid stripping the soft aluminum stud base — use a calibrated torque wrench, and prioritize clean, oxide-free contact surfaces over hitting the rated maximum.
- BMS selection: size your BMS and busbars around the more conservative 1C continuous discharge figure (~314A), not around any peak numbers you might see in reseller marketing.
Where this cell fits:
- Larger-capacity home energy storage packs / off-grid solar systems
- Telecom and commercial/industrial energy storage
- RV, marine, and backup power systems
- DIY battery pack builds and bulk purchasing for pack assembly
Bulk orders: available for full pack builds (e.g., 16S/48V configurations) or with BMS integration — contact us for a quote.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the cycle life really 5,000, or is it the 6,000-10,000 figures I've seen elsewhere? We list this cell at ~5,000 cycles per the manufacturer's data card — a conservative but verifiable figure. The higher figures (6,000-10,000+) circulating among some resellers don't come with disclosed test conditions, so we'd treat them cautiously rather than as a guaranteed baseline.
Besides capacity, what's different between the 314Ah and 280Ah? Same external dimensions (207x174x72mm). The 314Ah is a same-footprint capacity upgrade, roughly 12% more Ah. On discharge rate, the 280Ah's data card lists a 3C peak figure, while third-party sources on the 314Ah more consistently describe 1C continuous — the marketing language isn't identical between the two, so go by each cell's own data card.
How should I choose between this and the EVE MB31? If disclosed cycle-life test conditions and consistent Grade A availability are your priority, EVE's MB31 currently has stronger documented evidence on both fronts. If you prefer CATL's brand and are comfortable with the more conservative ~5,000-cycle expectation, this cell remains a reasonable choice.
Is the stud terminal M6? Yes, M6 by default. Contact customer service if you need a different thread size.
How many cells for a 48V system? 16 in series (16S) gives nominal 51.2V, same configuration logic as the 280Ah.
